A few months ago I went into my usual recording studio to listen to the early demos of Forever Yours and Good Morning Sunshine, deconstructing the songs layer-by-layer for a video called Production Values (see here). While I was there, I ended up listening to the first-take tracks of every song I’ve ever recorded, right back to my first album four years ago.
The result is that I took home a five-track EP of some of the more interesting raw files with the intent of releasing them under the name Raw Materials. I’ve since decided that, since this is just me playing the song as a guide before any of the real work starts, it’s not really something I’d feel comfortable profiting from as it’s nothing more than a curiosity for those of you interested in hearing it. As such, I’ve decided to upload the tracks here on Tumblr for you hopefully to enjoy for free. Each track will go up once an evening, every day this week :)
This third track was released with the title ‘Don’t Let The World Turn Past Me’. This basic version just has me playing the piano and singing, along with some synthesised vocal choirs.

I love how you can hear everyone’s accents, but then there’s Liam.

How is this not on my blog yet
“Erm… all of them. There’s no work in my work. It’s just pretty much me turning hobbies into careers. If I’m not working, I would be doing the same things, just doing them for free. So I don’t see a point in taking a vacation because I live on permanent vacation, as far as I see.”
-James DeenI relate so much to this. This is EXACTLY how I feel about my life. I can’t stop myself from doing things and I’m lucky enough that I’m supported by enough people who like those things that I get to keep doing them. :)

This second track was eventually released as ‘The Time Of Your Life’, the first single from my second album (available on iTunes or Spotify). It’s here with its original title (Together Tonight) and its original singalong-shanty feel, along with a new verse and different (worse) lyrics. This is the version I recorded in the studio in the morning; at lunchtime I didn’t eat, I just re-wrote the whole thing with Tom’s new structural ideas; and by the end of the day the song was finished as you now know it.
I legitimately could not pay attention to anything else whilst this song was playing. Going to play this on repeat a couple dozen times now…
I didn’t do it to ‘hide from criticism’ - I did it because I LEARNED from the criticism. I wrote a blog post that explained this, but if you haven’t read it, I concluded that I DIDN’T want to push this under the rug, because I messed up and I think hiding the problem doesn’t solve anything, but I took it off public because it was fundamentally clear that it was harming people and I didn’t want that to happen anymore. So now it’s only visible who already know about it and wanna talk about it. My post is public and the link is in the post. Hope that clears things up.
I’m sorry, I didn’t see your blog post, I didn’t know you had a blog, but I guess if you learned then that is what matters. I have so much respect for you and love your videos and your views and don’t really know what to say as a proper response for this. The fact that you’ve had the right approach to the criticism has restored a lot of my faith in you and the fact that you have messaged me directly.
I just skimmed over the blog post and it seems the video was a joke as I had hoped.
So, false alarm everyone. Alex Day is still awesome.
Does anybody mind if we move past this, now? ^^;

This first track is the last song of my debut album Parrot Stories (available on iTunes or Spotify).
Unexpected shift in key. It seemed a little messy around in the middle, right before ‘I’m a sucker for stability’. Threw me off. Still uncertain whether or not I like it. Might be biased after exposure to the one on Parrot Stories. Thoughts, guys?

So I was listening to Good Morning Sunshine by Alex Day and this gif came up and it kinda matches(mainly at the chorus)???
that alien sure has some sweet moves but can it dance to semi on the dancefloor?

The best response I’ve seen to Alex Day’s most recent video on his channel. If you haven’t seen THAT video, you can watch it here
Yes.
This is pretty much the point that I was trying to make, but she makes it much better than I did.
